Both the Vita and the Nintendo Wii U spot better sales

The NPD Group reports that the value of video games related sales in the United States for the month of February declined by 27 percent when compared to the same period last year, with the Xbox 360 once again topping the hardware charts.

Microsoft says that its home console has managed to move 302,000 units to gamers, while Sony and Nintendo refused to comment on sales numbers.

It seems that both the PlayStation Vita handheld and the Wii U have managed to perform better than they were doing at the end of the 2012.

The decline in overall value could also be explained by a shift towards digitally distributed video game content.

The NPD Group estimates that as much as 50 percent of the value of February sales might be currently delivered via services like Steam, XBLA or PSN.
