The NPD Group announces that, during the month of October, the Nintendo-made 3DS handheld was the best sold video game-related piece of hardware in the United States, even as the overall sector declined by 8 percent compared to the same period of last year.

The Xbox 360 from Microsoft is the bestselling home console for the month, with sales of 166,000 devices, ahead of the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Wii U from Nintendo.

The total value of sales reached 171.7 million dollars (135 million Euro).

Sales of game accessories went up by 1 percent, likely boosted by the launch of Skylanders Swap Force and Disney Infinity.

Liam Callahan, an analyst for the NPD Group, is quoted by VG247 as saying, “With the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One, we hope to see positive trends over November and December which would lead to an increase in software sales for the year.”
