The developers at EA Sports working on NHL 14 announce that they are celebrating twenty years since the launch of one of the most important hockey sims by adding a new NHL ’94 mode to their coming game.

The team explains the core ideas of the new content by saying, “Forget all the rules. Penalties? Get out of here! Offsides? Nope! Icings? Not a chance! Just old school NHL ’94 - style gameplay that uses classic button controls to deliver big hits, real fights, dirty dangles and sick snipes!”

The NHL 14 engine that is used to create the anniversary mode includes old-school music, no adboards, a 16-bit arena and star-shaped player indicators.

The new hockey simulation will be launched on September 10 on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
