Video game publisher Nintendo is registering a trademark for a new project called NES Remix, which might be a new compilation of favorites from the old platform that will be re-developed and then launched on the Wii U.

The information comes from the official classification board in Australia and the registration page itself does not offer any sort of extra details.

The Nintendo Entertainment System was first launched in 1983 and remains one of the most important consoles for older gamers because the Japanese company managed to use the advanced, at that time, hardware to deliver some great titles.

Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda were launched on the NES and a Remix package will need to include them to become attractive to players.

The Wii U has failed to reach Nintendo sales projects since it was launched and the company might see an improvement in its fortunes as long as it plays the nostalgia card well.
