Koichi Hayashida, game director of the NES Remix game, has announced the cancellation of the formerly issued official challenge for the Remix I Stage 4 “Collect all the coins!” speed run.

Shortly following the announcement and release of their NES Remix for Wii U, Nintendo challenged their fans to see who can be the fastest to complete the Remix I Stage 4 level. Unfortunately, the discovery of an exploit that allowed players to set faster times than normal has led to the cancellation of the contest.

The Miiverse challenge announcement was followed by a quick statement apologizing to the community and calling off the event, citing “the interest of being as fair as possible” as reason.

There was no other reward for the event, apart from official recognition from Nintendo. The exploit seems to have involved repeatedly pausing the game in order to cheat the clock while playing said level.
