Erick Boenisch, a producer working on NBA 2K14, says that his team has significantly expanded the NBA Today move for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 versions of the basketball simulation in order to make the player feel more immersed in the experience.

The developer says that the amount of detail included is designed to replicate real-world matches down to the timing of various shots.

He tells Polygon that, "'They lost on a last second shot. Kobe missed it but he shot 14 for 28. He had 31 points. Got in foul trouble late in the game.' And that’s the kind of detail that you don’t get from the old system."

The developer says that raw NBA game data is processed using proprietary technology by 2K Games and then sent to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 as quickly as possible.

NBA 2K14 will be offered on next-gen devices when they are launched in November.
