This weekend's EVO 2014 competition brought more than just great fights between pro players, in the form of some nice reveals pertaining to NetherRealm Studios' upcoming Mortal Kombat X.

Apart from revealing the fact that Mortal Kombat series mainstay Raiden will be making an appearance in Mortal Kombat X, the franchise's co-creator, Ed Boon, also hinted that the next installment in the fighting game series will include at least one guest character from another similar franchise, with additional ones being a definite possibility.

While Raiden showing up for the party is no big surprise, considering his crucial role within the story, the addition of a (hopefully) brand new character will surely be an interesting one. Especially since several DLC fighters are planned for Mortal Kombat X, as revealed during an interview with Mad Catz (skip to 3:30).

It should be noted that this isn't the first time when NetherRealm Studios is experimenting with cross-franchise features, as MK's Scorpion was offered as a DLC character for the company's previous fighting game, featuring a cast of super-heroes from the DC Comics universe, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and that God of War's Kratos was included in the base Mortal Kombat 9 game.

Mortal Kombat X is expected to come out sometime in 2015, for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.
