Warner Bros has released a brand new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X, showcasing Raiden's different character variations and the effect that picking each one will have on gameplay.

The video, narrated by NetherRealm Studios' Ed Boon, shows the immortal god in each of his three variations, Thunder God, Displacer and Storm Lord, describing how each of them comes with various offensive and defensive advantages.

The Thunder God variation enhances Raiden's lightning-based attacks and combos, enabling him to do more damage.

His Displacer variation offers him enhanced teleportation moves that afford him more mobility during combat and make him more difficult to contain and control.

Storm Lord Raiden can create various lightning traps, offering him a better control over the battlefield and the general flow of the game.

Each of the characters in the upcoming fighting game will feature several variations that allow slight twists in the way they are played.

For now, the list of confirmed characters includes series mainstays Raiden, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, alongside four new warriors, D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage and Kotal Kahn.

Kano was also announced to be part of the game's roster of characters yesterday, and Ed Boon teased fans of the series by saying that the main antagonist would be a surprise returning character.

Mortal Kombat X is currently scheduled to come out next year, for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
