Could be an argument in upcoming legal battle between Respawn and Activision

Game Informer has revealed that it has examined a number of legal documents which suggest that the new near future setting for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops II might violate the terms of the contract that publisher Activision has with developer Infinity Ward.

The contract between the two companies says that all post-Vietnam titles in the series will be created by Infinity Ward, but the studio will probably give Treyarch a pass for Black Ops II, mainly because it might otherwise lose the right to create the next Modern Warfare title.

Activision is already embroiled in a legal battle with Jason West and Vince Zampella, the two creators of the Modern Warfare brand, who have left the company after the second title was launched and claimed that they were forced out by the publisher.

They are currently working at a new studio called Respawn Entertainment and are currently prototyping their first video game project.
