Mod DB has just released its annual Mod of the Year contest, publishing a list of 100 eligible titles. The list includes both released and pending mods.

The contest will take place over a period of six days and will be sponsored by the Origin online video game store.

The list of 100 mods has been compiled in the last four weeks, based on community votes received by the available candidates.

The competition has a twelve-year-old tradition, with its first victor being Natural Selection, a first-person team strategy mod written on top of the Half-Life game engine.

The best mod of 2012 was Black Mesa, a revised iteration of the original Half-Life, as GameInformer reports.

The official list features a wide array of titles, ranging from Command&Conquer Generals to Duke Nukem 3D and Torchlight II mods.

Mod DB is also running an Indie of the Year and App of the Year awards.
