Video game developer Shigeru Miyamoto announces that the Year of Luigi initiative for all Nintendo properties is set to officially end on March 18, although it is currently unclear whether the company plans to launch a game to mark the occasion on that date.

He is quoted by IGN as stating on the Japanese version of the Miiverse social service that, “Thanks to everyone’s kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year. I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother.”

The Year of Luigi saw Nintendo launch titles including Dr. Luigi, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and New Super Luigi U.

It’s unclear whether the company has plans to launch a similar initiative for the coming fiscal year.

The Wii U is set to get access in the coming months to both Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.
