Shigeru Miyamoto, the leading game designer working at Nintendo, says that he envisions a future for the Mario title in which his team creates two types of experiences, one delivered via Super Mario Galaxy and another for classic 2D titles.

He is quoted by VG247 as saying that “I would like to take on a variety of new challenges with Super Mario Galaxy and design 2D Super Mario games in an easy-to-understand way within certain restraints.”

It seems that, at the moment, his Nintendo team in Tokyo lacks the manpower to work on both kinds of experiences at the same time, and the company is unwilling to bring in another team.

Super Mario 3D World will be launched on the 3DS on November 22 in the United States and on November 29 in Europe.

The Wii U will probably get a new Super Mario Galaxy title in 2014.
