Minecraft for the PlayStation Vita handheld console will be based on the full version of the game made for consoles like the Xbox 360, not on the Pocket Edition, which is available on smartphones.

Minecraft is a true global phenomenon, appearing first on the PC and then transitioning onto consoles like the Xbox 360 or the upcoming PS4 or Xbox One, not to mention on smartphones, in the form of the Pocket Edition.

The game is also set to debut for the PS Vita in the future, and one of the developers from Mojang confirmed on Reddit that this version of the game would use the same code base as the home console editions.

As such, PS Vita owners shouldn't expect the same limitations found on the mobile Pocket Edition of Minecraft to be included in their custom version.

As of yet, however, Minecraft on PS Vita has yet to receive a concrete release date or period.
