Although the PS4 version has not been mentioned, the limit is most likely also 8 players

Minecraft is spreading to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms soon, and apparently the player limit for the two consoles is set to eight individuals.

The news comes from Game Producer Roger Carpenter of Microsoft Studios, who has tweeted that, at release, up to eight players will be able to join Minecraft sessions together.

"#minecraftxbox1 will be 8 player at release but we will continue working to allow more players in a future update!" he says, promising that the limit will be increased at a later date.

For now, it hasn't been announced how many players can participate in a game in the PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft, but the number is most likely also eight.

Fans have been pretty disappointed to hear the low number, as it marks no change from the last-gen versions of Minecraft, on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms, and while the promise of a better future exists, it does nothing to alleviate the disappointment and does not bode well for the new hardware.

Mojang's block stacking sensation is being brought to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita platforms by 4J Studios, scheduled for launch this August. The game has been confirmed to run in 1080p at 60 frames per second on the two next-gen consoles.
