Indie hit Minecraft has crossed the 4 million units sold milestone, just as the development team at Mojang, led by Markus 'Notch' Persson is getting ready to deploy the final version of the game.

Minecraft started life as an early alpha but quickly impressed legions of gamers with the huge array of possibilities given to players in its virtual world, as they could build all sorts of crazy things by themselves or together with friends.

Now, just as the game is getting ready to see the release of its final version, scheduled to happen on November 11, Mojang confirmed that more than 4 million people have bought a copy of Minecraft.

According to the stat page of the game's website, "16,106,456 people have registered and 4,010,089 people bought the game."

Besides the release of the full game, Mojang is also preparing for the first edition of MineCon, a convention dedicated to all things Minecraft that will take place later this month, where the first playable build of the game's Xbox 360 version will be available.
