Patch 1.7.10 will also introduce a ton of bug fixes and Realms UI tweaks

Minecraft 1.7.10 patch finally brings the command block to the sandbox experience, ushering in a new age of fiddling around with complex circuitry in the massive sandbox survival game.

The command block is an orange box with LEDs stuck to it, kind of like the deck of the Enterprise in the old-time Star Trek movies. It can be used to execute various specific commands, and presumably people will flock to re-enact James Bond executions via Rude Goldberg machines.

Players can set a specific command by simply right-clicking on the block to pop open its interface, and enterprising redstone experimenters can turn it into their very own virtual skinner box. You can use the command block in conjunction with a redstone comparator to see whether the commands are succeeding or not.

In addition to command blocks, the 1.7.10 patch comes with a ton of other things, such as more server settings, bug fixes, some UI changes for Mojang's Realms subscription service, a world uploader that enables players to bring local worlds to Realms, and a player activity monitor that will allow stalkers to see who played where and for how long while they were sleeping.

The gadget has been in testing since forever, and it's finally coming to the game this Thursday, when the patch goes live.
