The dev team at Monolith Productions and publishers Warner Bros have just released a brand-new video, showcasing some of the weapons and runes in the upcoming action adventure game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

The game follows Talion, a ranger brought to life by a mysterious spirit, who embarks on a quest for vengeance against Sauron and the killers of his family. He is imbued with the wraith's essence, and as such he can make use of various ghastly abilities to aid him in his quest.

The video highlights select gameplay features of the upcoming game, offering some precious information on the rune system. In Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor, runes add powerful buffs to the protagonist's weapons, and are dropped as loot when foes are slain.

Being able to capitalize on each enemy's particular weaknesses will influence the type of rune that is dropped, and the variety of runes will increase the potency of Talion's attacks in many ways.

Crafting epic runes to his weapons will make them known and feared by every beast and scoundrel in Mordor, but procuring them from the enemy warchiefs will prove to be a daunting task that will challenge even the most nimble of players.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is set to launch on October 7 on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.
