Warner's next action game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is supposedly using Assassin's Creed 2 assets, according to an ex-Ubisoft developer.

The latest gameplay trailer released for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor certainly looks interesting, showing how the unique nemesis system works, as well as showing off the protagonist's wraith powers.

It also started a dispute, as apparently Charles Randall, a former Ubisoft employee currently working at Capybara Games, claimed in a series of Twitter posts that the action-adventure game is imitating some of the moves he worked on during the development of Assassin's Creed 2.

“Seriously, can someone tell me how Assassin's Creed 2 code and assets are in this Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor game,” he said.

After being challenged over the claim, he pointed out that he spent 2 years working on Assassin's Creed 2, and he is very familiar with the game's code and animations.

He did end the discussion on a more amiable note, stating that “for the record though, that Middle Earth game looks pretty damn awesome. And I love AC2 so it's kind of a double win.”

The Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor game was announced at the end of last year, in November, and is expected to launch some time during 2014, for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.
