The company is acting within the rules if it makes clear that it is rewarding contributors

The Federal Trade Commission says that the Xbox One promotion on YouTube that paid contributors as long as they were ready to offer positive opinions was not breaking any rules because the company was not trying to hide the monetary rewards.

Speaking to Polygon, Betsy Lordan, a representative of the Office of Public Affairs at the government agency, says that all promotions are fine as long as the paid endorsement does not claim to be something else.

Gamers were outraged when it was revealed that Microsoft was trying to make the Xbox One seem like a better gaming device than it was via a promotion which also involved Machinima.

The new home console has managed to sell well in 2013, but the rival PlayStation 4 from Sony has moved more devices to gamers and Microsoft is probably ready to do whatever it takes to increase its numbers.
