The new 399 USD/EUR console is really popular, apparently

The Xbox One console has seen a massive surge in terms of sales after the debut last month of the 399 USD/EUR version, with Microsoft confirming that sales have doubled over the figures seen in May.

Microsoft launched the Xbox One last November, and due to several lingering policy issues and plenty of controversies ahead of that release, not a lot of people flocked to get the new device. Throw in the steep price of 499 USD/EUR, as opposed to the PS4's more affordable 399 USD/EUR, and the Xbox One has been considerably behind Sony's product.

As a last ditch effort, Microsoft rolled out a new bundle without the Kinect sensor, selling just the Xbox One and a controller for 399 USD/EUR.

The move was a success, apparently, as the company has confirmed on the Xbox Wire that the sales figures have more than doubled over the ones registered in May.

"Over the past month, we’ve seen a strong spike in interest in our Xbox One console options, including the new $399 offering, and the amazing lineup of games announced during E3. Since the new Xbox One offering launched on June 9th, we’ve seen sales of Xbox One more than double in the US, compared to sales in May, and solid growth in Xbox 360 sales."

The numbers are based on Microsoft's own retailer data and don't factor in figures from the NPD group, for example.
