The feature is only requested by a minority of modern gamers

Many gamers were disappointed to find out that the coming Xbox One from Microsoft would lack backwards compatibility of any kind and now Microsoft seeks to put salt on the wound by saying that the expectation itself is backward.

Don Mattrick, the leader of the Microsoft division creating the Xbox One, is quoted by Gamasutra as saying that, "We created something that understands how to be performant for all scenarios and all combinations. If you’re backwards compatible, you’re really backwards."

Microsoft will probably find a way to re-release popular older titles and will ask those who bought them for the Xbox 360 to pay for them all over again.

Sony has also said that it has no plans for backwards compatibility when it comes to its new PlayStation 4 home console.
