Microsoft: Xbox One Could Have Been Named Infinity

Albert Penello, one of the leaders of the team preparing the launch of the Xbox One, has confirmed that one of the names that was considered for the next-gen console was Infinity.

Only a decision coming from the marketing team persuaded the hardware side of the company to use the Xbox One name.

The Official Xbox Magazine quotes the executive as saying that, "That’s actually from the brand guys. The name is all them. We just wanted to make sure the hardware was solid. What it was called was top secret, even for many people on the team."

Pre-reveal rumors suggested that Xbox Infinity was the name chosen by Microsoft.

Most industry observers were surprised to learn that Xbox One was the chosen name, something that the company might have actually bet on.

The new console is set to be launched at some point in November.
