The team at Microsoft working on the new Xbox One home console believes that the device has the potential to sell between 400 million and one billion devices during its entire lifetime.

Yusuf Mehdi, the vice president of the Interactive Entertainment division, tells The Official Xbox Magazine that, " Every generation, as you’ve probably heard, has grown approximately 30%. So this generation is about 300 million units. Most industry experts think the next generation will get upwards of about 400 million units."

The executive believes that the multimedia focus of the Xbox One will allow it to perform better than the previous 360 incarnation.

Microsoft also wants to continue selling its current gen device, which has the potential to move another 100 million devices in five years, presumably at a lower price and on smaller markets.
