Today, Microsoft has announced that it is reversing its stance on Digital Rights Management for the coming Xbox One home console, in a move that has surprised many players.

This means that the console does not need to connect to the Internet every 24 hours and there are no restrictions to trading and lending game disks.

Don Mattrick, the president of the Interactive Entertainment Business division, explains that, "You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you."

He adds, "Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world."

The Xbox 180 move, as fans are calling the announcement, means that Microsoft's policies are roughly equivalent to those of the PlayStation 4 from Sony.
