Microsoft is getting ready to announce that it will allow indie game developers to self-publish their titles on the Xbox One home console, according to one of the developers who is working on the new platform.

A source, identified as a developer with a solid track record on Microsoft devices, tells Gamereactor that it is currently in discussions about self-publishing.

Only the smallest developers will be able to use the new process and Microsoft reserves the right to select the titles that it lets through.

The source states that indies will not be able to "simply publish anything they produce as Microsoft wants to keep from flooding the market with software."

Apparently, Microsoft is also taking into account cutting the cost of devkits for the small development teams.

A previous rumor suggested that Microsoft had already made a decision on self-publishing and is only looking for an occasion to announce it.
