Chris Seavor, a former Rare employee, reveals that one Microsoft executive believed that the Rare acquisition meant that his company was now the owner of the Donkey Kong franchise.

The Donkey Kong incident shows that many executives are unable to understand exactly how important video games are to their players.

Seavor is quoted by The Examiner as saying, “The current generation of ‘enablers’ won't even know they own the IP.”

Rare had been involved with multiple Donkey Kong titles as part of its relationship with Nintendo, before it was acquired outright by Microsoft.

Since then, the company has worked with motion tracking technology.

At the moment, it is creating Kinect Sports Rivals for the Xbox One home console, which is expected to be available as a launch title and will use the new and improved Kinect sensor.
