Xbox Live Arcade games will be updated more often as a result

Microsoft has confirmed that it no longer charges developers of Xbox 360 Arcade games for updates.

The company has also revealed that the practice was implemented back in April, although it was never communicated to the public.

Developers who made downloadable games for the Xbox 360 and posted them on the Xbox Live Arcade were forced to jump through hoops and pay in order to release more than one update for the title.

This led to some huge scandals, some involving Fez creator Phil Fish, who couldn't release an update to fix a game-breaking bug in the title because he couldn't afford the fee.

Now, Microsoft has confirmed, after a report from yesterday, that the fee for title updates for Arcade games was lifted in April.

The message was delivered by Xbox Community Manager Larry Hryb on Twitter, but no explanation was given as to why the announcement wasn't made public at that time.
