Huw Beynon, the global brand manager at Deep Silver working on Metro: Last Light, says that the story of the game will reveal more information about the past of main character Artyom, but the focus of the experience will be on the world he explores.

The developer tells VG247 that, “There are elements of Artyom’s past in there as he goes through his own personal journey. But the reasons and the ‘why’ behind the war are never explained, because this is ‘year zero’ for the remnants of humanity.”

The first Metro video games have never talked about Artyom in too much detail, but many players got to love the capable survivor and his ability to discover inner resources and get through all the game’s challenges.

Last Light will see players explore the surface of Moscow, while also dealing with a new unnamed threat.
