Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, has revealed that the full-fledged stealth experience MGS 5: The Phantom Pain will appear at a time when the PS4 next-gen console is widely adopted by fans from around the world.

The Metal Gear Solid franchise will see its next installment split into two parts. The first is Ground Zeroes, a short prologue that will lead into the events from Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

While Ground Zeroes is set to debut in spring of 2014 on current and next-gen consoles, The Phantom Pain doesn't have a release date.

In order to shed a bit more light, Hideo Kojima talked with Famitsu during a recent PS4 launch event and revealed that The Phantom Pain should come out when the PlayStation 4 becomes widely adopted, according to the translation via Kotaku.

The game designer didn't say just what sales target the PS4 needs to hit, so it's still unclear when The Phantom Pain is coming.
