The development team at Maxis admits that, more than six months after launch, they are exploring the possibility of adding an offline mode to SimCity, although it is unclear when the option might be added.

Patrick Buechner, the general manager of the studio, states in an official post that a special group of developers is working on the concept.

He says, "I can’t make any promises on when we will have more information, but we know this is something that many of our players have been asking for. While the server connectivity issues are behind us, we would like to give our players the ability to play even if they choose not to connect. "

When SimCity was first launched it was affected by serious issues with its servers and many long-term fans of the franchise complained about the fact that they needed an Internet connection to play.

The manager also believes that mods would benefit from an offline mode.
