The great moments in the game's story happen when you meet old friends

For some, Mass Effect games can be about shooting, but for many it’s all about immersing yourself in a sci-fi universe filled with alien races and all sorts of unique characters.

Throughout his or her adventures, Commander Shepard meets up with all sorts of individuals, some more trustworthy than others. In Mass Effect 3, the protagonist’s story comes full circle and with it, so do the plots of almost all of his allies, or at least those who survived the first two titles.

Just like in the second game, the opening segments of Mass Effect 3 are largely dedicated to meeting up with former squad mates, as well as with the other NPCs you’ve interacted with over the last two titles.

This, arguably, is where the game’s most touching moments happen, at least for those who already went through previous experiences.

Those who’ve yet to play the game should stop reading now as I’m going to highlight some of these encounters.

While this time you’re sent to form an alliance to stop the Reapers, instead of a team to stop the Collectors, the new game’s missions progress similarly to the ones from Mass Effect 2.

From meeting Ashley on Earth, Liara on Mars, or Garrus on Palaven, the quests, whether they’re primary or secondary, make sure to reintroduce you to many of your former acquaintances.

Even the different environments on the Citadel are filled with characters from your past adventures, including Thane, found in the medical bay, or Miranda, on the docking station.

You can reminisce, more or less, with almost all of these characters, but most of them won’t accompany you throughout your actual adventures. It seems that even if you’re trying to save the universe from being destroyed, your friends have bigger things to worry about.

Still, meeting up with all of your old friends is one of the high points of Mass Effect 3’s story.
