Nintendo announces that the upcoming Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is designed to introduce a new dimension to the virtual competition that allows gamers to gain glory for their own country.

A new trailer shows how a number of events in the title can be enjoyed online, with points given to the home nation of those who place in the first three positions.

A persistent online ranking will show the points.

The sports that are included in the new game mode are: Ski Cross, Snowboard Cross, Short Track Speed Skating, and Winter Sports Champion Race, a combination of Skiing, Ice Skating, Bobsleigh, and Snowboard.

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be launched exclusively on the Wii U on November 8 in Europe and a full week later in the United States.

A second Wii Remote Plus is required for some of the included events, and Nintendo is offering a bundle that includes it.
