Nintendo has officially confirmed that it's going to release Mario Maker for the Wii U console in the near future, allowing owners of the device to create and play their own 2D levels with the iconic plumber in two different art styles modeled after the classic 8-bit Super Mario Bros. and the HD New Super Mario Bros. U.

Nintendo has used its Mario mascot in a variety of ways to promote the new Wii U home console, and the latest project starring the famous Italian plumber is Mario Maker.

Like its name suggests, the game will allow fans of the series to make and play their own 2D levels by deploying iconic props such as bricks, piranha plants, or enemies like koopas or goombas.

You can easily jump from editing the level to playing it using the Wii U GamePad controller, and you can use the touchscreen to manipulate elements by dragging and dropping.

What's more, with the push of a button, the visual style can be changed from the 8-bit Super Mario Bros. to the high-definition New Super Mario Bros. U.

Mario Maker for the Wii U is set to debut in the first half of 2015, according to Nintendo, so you can expect to hear and see much more of it in the future.
