Hideki Konno, one of the producers working on Mario Kart 8, says that the coming racing game has been balanced by his team in order to make sure that the impact of luck is limited and that skilled players will be able to win most of the time.

GameSpot quotes the developer as saying that, “We do hear, and a lot of people out there say it, that Mario Kart is all about luck. That if you’re at the front then you’ll get hit with a blue shell, so it’s all about luck. That feature is not random – it doesn’t just happen.”

The producer wants the player community to understand that his team carefully plays all levels and uses all core mechanics to see how they impact the overall player experience.

The new anti-gravity feature has also been carefully balanced to make sure that it cannot be used to limit the performance of the most skilled drivers.

Mario Kart 8 will be launched exclusively on the Wii U home console from Nintendo on May 30 all over the world.

The game is seen as one of the 2014 launches that needs to perform well in order to give the device a chance in its competition with the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
