Developer Arrowhead Games and publisher Paradox Interactive have announced that their free form magic powered action adventure, Magicka, will be free to play over the weekend for all those who installed the Steam digital distribution service from Valve.

Also those who install the game and like the experience have the option of buying the game with a discount of 75 percent.

The game is build around the player's ability to create spells by combining a number of core elements, with the results often surprising.

The game had quite a few issues when it was launched but the developers at Arrowhead have released patches almost every day for the first weeks and the game is now stable and largely bug free.

Magicka will also get an expansion during the winter season, called The Stars Are Left, which is a reference to Lovecraft lore and a direct result of the fact that The Stars Are Right was already taken.
