MachineGames, the new studio working on the recently revealed Wolfenstein: The New Order, says that it plans to respect the legacy of the classic first-person shooter series even if the new title is using an entirely different universe.

Jens Matthies, the creative director at the studio, is quoted by VG247 as saying that a number of familiar faces might make a return, although he declined to name any of those involved.

He also makes it clear that the new game will abandon the occult angle of Wolfenstein altogether and will focus on the technology that allowed Nazi forces to conquer the world and how that can be turned against them.

The new Wolfenstein will only include a single-player mode.

The New Order is set to launch on the PC, current-gen consoles, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in late 2013.
