Tomasz Gop, the leading developer working on Lords of the Fallen, believes that the initial stages of the project were affected by comparisons between the title from Deck 13 and the already launched Dark Souls created by From Software.

The game creator, who has previously worked on The Witcher series, tells DigitalSpy that, “I had a really tough time around a year ago, or even beyond that. It’s a tough start for a developer to be associated that strongly with something, even if it is something that’s a great inspiration.”

Gop says that the constraints of the genre they are using are visible in both titles, but that his team has no intention of taking entire mechanics from the rival title in order to replicate them.

Dark Souls is acknowledged as an inspiration, mainly because it has managed to reach a mainstream audience.

He believes that the relationship between the two is similar to that between fighting games like Street Fighter and Tekken.

Lords of the Fallen will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft later in the year.

The title will allow gamers to control a character as he battles a range of very powerful enemies, with a focus on patterns and on interesting gameplay choices.
