Riot Games has revealed that their digital-only business model, undertaken with League of Legends, means that they will never make a sequel to the game, no matter what.

League of Legends is considered the best multiplayer online battle arena game in the world, and although the jury is still out on "best," Riot Games' creation wins the popularity contest hands down, registering record earnings in the free-to-play segment time year after year, and a ridiculously high number of players (around 27 million) enjoying the game each day.

Despite the game's resounding international success, the developers will continue to issue content updates in small iterative increments, instead of releasing full-blown sequels for their project.

The company has already revealed their plans to continue supporting League of Legends and eSports events for decades, asserting their confidence that LoL is here for the long haul and that the game's popularity will not wane anytime soon.

"I want my great grand-children playing this game," senior environment artist Brent Critchfield has told Polygon, during the E3 gaming convention taking place in Los Angeles.

While the company has no plans to create a sequel to the game, instead opting to gradually improve it over time, that doesn't rule out Riot Games considering creating entirely new games.

So far the company has not disclosed anything about any new projects, but sources inside the company have revealed that Riot will eventually bring out new IP.
