Knytt Underground, a platform adventure where the main character can morph into a ball and bounce from ledges and slopes, is coming to the Wii U eShop on December 19.

The Wii U version will feature new “Infinite Hype” content and “new graphical effects and flourishes,” according to its developer.

That sounds like good news, because Knytt Underground's graphics already have a surreal element to them, the visuals having a strong aesthetic direction.

The game was released last year for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PC, Linux and Mac, but didn't receive much attention.

Its gameplay focuses mainly on exploring its eerie world, with players having to take advantage of the character's unique ability in order to navigate the world.

This release is probably as close to a new Metroid game as we're going to get for a while, according to Destructoid.

This year's release could be getting more face time though, as Nintendo fans are wrapping up the latest Legend of Zelda and Mario titles, and will probably be on the lookout for something new to play.
