Rhythm games are a weird bunch; it's like a traditional game is not letting you play it the way you want to, but the way it wants to be played instead.

In many cases, the timing-based controls are there to replace part of the gameplay. In other cases, they complement it in a way that makes the entire experience more compelling.

Apart from Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution, there have been a lot of other titles trying to take a more video gamey approach to the genre, to offer an experience that is similar to traditional platformers, dungeon crawlers or beat'em up games, only using the rhythm stuff.

Klang is one such game, looking like a cross between KickBeat and a two-dimensional Devil May Cry, standing out through its unique visual style.

You play the role of an elite warrior called Klang, and you crash a rave party, resulting in a sound lord getting irked and ordering your death.

Klang's basic weapon is a tuneblade that can reflect attacks back at enemies, and it involves moving a thumbstick in one of eight directions while running around and jumping.
