Riccardo Zacconi, the chief executive officer of developer King, says that his company is interested in taking all measures to protect its own intellectual property while also respecting the game universes that other developers create.

In an open letter, the leader of the studio aims to dispel the idea that King is too aggressive when pursuing what it sees as trademark infringements, including one that involves the recently launched The Banner Saga from Stoic Games.

The executive writes that, “Not surprisingly, some developers have seen an opportunity to take advantage of popularity, and have published games with similar sounding titles and similar looking graphics. We believe it is right and reasonable to defend ourselves from such copycats.”

It seems that the legal battle with Stoic will continue in the coming months.

Zacconi also accepts that his company should not have published Pac-Avoid and says that the leadership will be more careful when it comes to the future products it launches.
