Only smaller and indie project can benefit from it

Despite the recent projects that have acquired funding from the fan base via the Kickstarter service, the traditional publisher – developer business model will not be eliminated anytime soon, according to one veteran game creator.

Speaking at the Game Center of the New York University, Tim Schafer, the leader of development studio Tim Schafer, stated, “Wasteland 2 -- these are things that publishers have already passed on. It's not like you're going in and taking a bunch of business away from them, yet.”

The teams that are asking for money via crowd funding usually ask for a lower amount of money than they would get from a traditional publisher and are usually working on smaller, more innovative projects.

The developer also talked about his own Kickstarter funded projects, saying, “Each game tried to do something different, so this is going to be interesting, because we really feel like we should be doing that again. What would one of those games look like now?”
