Kaio: King of Pirates, the Nintendo 3DS pirate game lead by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, is scheduled to release during 2014, according to an update on its official website.

Kaio is an action role-playing game that supports multiplayer, in development by Intercept, Inafune-founded studio in collaboration with Marvelous AQL.

The game's main protagonist is a pirate penguin named Sangokushi, who is joined by a numerous cast of over 300 different characters, ranging from other penguins to cows, monkeys and dragons.

The game was originally announced in 2011 and slated for a 2012 release, but was then pushed to 2013, according to Gematsu, and now it seems it's going to be delayed even more.

Keiji Inafune's other studio, Comcept, is currently working on Mighty No. 9, a Kickstarter-funded spiritual successor to Mega Man that managed to raise more than 4 times its already ambitious goal.
