The PlayStation Vita handheld from Sony managed to take a surprising first place in the Japanese hardware chart for the week that ended on November 17, helped by the launch of God Eater 2 from Namco Bandai.

The Sony device managed to sell 88,522 units in the seven-day period, which is a huge improvement over the 21,764 it had sold during the previous week, and is followed by the 3DS from Nintendo, which stands on a little over 70,000.

The Wii U has seen a decline in its own fortunes, but remains the bestselling home console ahead of the PlayStation 3, according to NeoGAF.

The PS4 will only be delivered on the Japanese market in February 22.

The video game top ten includes Call of Duty: Ghosts, World Soccer Winning Eleven 2014, God Eater 2 on the PSP, Pokemon X / Y, Daigasso! Band Brothers P, Monster Hunter 4, Medarot Dual: Kabuto Ver. / Kuwagata Ver., Grand Theft Auto V and Battlefield 4.
