Earth Defense Force 2025, a new entry from D3 Publisher, is the best-selling video game in Japan for the week that ended on July 7, managing to deliver 154,689 copies to players during its debut week.

Despite its good sales, the PlayStation 3 has not seen a similar boost and continues to steadily lose sales ahead of the launch of the PS4, this week delivering 11,683 devices to fans.

The Nintendo 3DS is the best-selling piece of hardware, although it has also seen a decline from the 50,712 of the previous week to 44,222, according to figures cited by NeoGAF.

The PlayStation Vita continues to perform pretty well and delivered 20,776 to gamers.

The rest of the video game top ten includes:

Toukiden for the Vita, Toukiden for the PSP, Gundam Breaker, Friend Collection: New Life, Earth Defense Force 2025, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, The Last of Us, Toriko: Gourmet Battle! and Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl.
