What we know:

Transistor is the next title from Supergiant Games, the independent developer behind the stunning Bastion, which impressed millions of people across all sorts of platforms worldwide.

The new game is an action role-playing title, in which players take control of a mysterious girl who wields an even more mysterious weapon.

In order to shed some light on the artifact, she must wield it through a series of adventures and find the previous owners of the weapon.

In terms of gameplay, the same isometric experience seen in Bastion returns, with players exploring a sci-fi city this time around and engaging in different hectic brawls against various foes.

As with Bastion, you can expect a captivating story that will certainly tug on the heart strings of many players. Unfortunately, as of yet, not much else is known about Transistor as a whole or its plot in particular.

Why it matters:

Supergiant Games was a rookie studio but, after launching Bastion first on the Xbox 360 and then on the PC, it quickly gathered a cult following. The indie game impressed through a touching story and captivating gameplay, and it was soon ported to many platforms, including mobile ones.

Thanks to that success, Supergiant is self-funding and publishing Transistor and wants to deliver the best experience possible, especially since it doesn't have to meet deadlines or requirements from an external publisher.

The game has already impressed through its first screenshots and gameplay videos, so it's going to be interesting to see if the team at Supergiant will be able to deliver an experience that's at least on the same level of quality as Bastion.

Transistor is set to debut for the PC and PS4 this year. Supergiant didn't rule out a launch for other platforms in the future, but it wants at first to only focus on these two devices.
