What we know:

The Division, formally known as Tom Clancy's The Division, is the next big online project from Ubisoft and its Massive Entertainment team.

The title was revealed last year at E3 2013 and amazed millions of gamers by portraying an online world with a stunning visual quality as well as all sorts of impressive mechanics and systems that made it feel more like an action game than an online one.

Players take control of government agents acting in a New York City that's been devastated by a virus outbreak. Their task is to bring the city back to normal by eliminating threats and restoring public services, such as clean water, electricity, and much more.

A new approach to classes and RPG attributes is promised by developer Massive Entertainment, possible through the new Snowdrop Engine.

A special tech trailer has already appeared with the impressive technology, showing off the stunning visuals and the different effects possible with the Snowdrop Engine, amazing many and getting lots of new people interested in the actual game.

Why it matters:

The online gaming segment is a risky one, as quite a few failures have been recorded in recent years, like Star Wars: The Old Republic.

What's more, it's still unclear how Ubisoft will sell The Division, either as a subscription-based experience or as a free-to-play one, each having different advantages and disadvantages.

Even so, the game is looking extremely promising and might end up being one of the big surprises that should appear later this year, provided that Ubisoft doesn't make any mistakes along the way.

Expect to hear much more about it in the following months.

Tom Clancy's The Division launches in fall of 2014 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One consoles.
