What we know:

The PS4 is set to receive quite a few big exclusives in 2014 and, among them, one of the most anticipated is Infamous: Second Son, the sequel to the great Infamous titles that appeared for the PS3 some time ago.

With a new protagonist, fresh powers, and a new city to explore, Infamous: Second Son is looking set to deliver a great super-powered experience.

Players will control Delsin Rowe who, after trying to rescue one of the Conduits (humans with special abilities), discovers his own hidden powers that allow him, at least at first, to control smoke and fire.

Unfortunately for him, the government's Unified Department of Protection cracks down on his city of Seattle in order to find and contain all Conduits, who are dubbed bio-terrorists because of their dangerous powers.

As such, Delsin must make sure that the UDP's abusive policies won't lock the whole city down, while the evil Conduits won't hurt its inhabitants.

Core gameplay seems relatively the same, as it's a third-person action adventure experience. Delsin, as opposed to Infamous 1 and 2's Cole MacGrath, can't control electricity, but he can employ smoke and fire, and he will apparently augment his arsenal with other abilities, like Neon, as shown in new videos and screenshots.

As always, he and players will have to make tough decisions that affect not just the outcome of the story, but also what powers he has access to.

Why it matters:

The Infamous titles delivered some truly impressive open world action experiences, offering fans access to big sandboxes, in the form of Empire City and New Marais, but also impressive powers, like electricity and much more.

Now, with the power of the PS4, developer Sucker Punch promises to bring an even more impressive experience with fantastic powers and great adventures for protagonist Delsin Rowe.

Throw in the new themes about government surveillance and the relationship between Delsin and his brother Reggie, and Second Son is looking set to be a great game.

Infamous: Second Son launches exclusively for the PS4 later this year around the world.
