What we know: DriveClub is a racing game that is being developed by Evolution Studios and will be published by Sony exclusively on the PlayStation 4 home console.

The studio working on the title says that it wants to create an experience where the emphasis is not on collecting cars and mastering tracks but on the social interactions between racers and the organizations that they can create.

The game does not seek to compete with the likes of Forza Motorsport 5 or Gran Turismo 6, but wants to create an accessible set of mechanics that average players can master in order to quickly have fun with their friends.

The Share button on the new PlayStation 4 controller will be used to organize some of the elements of the various drive clubs.

The game was initially set to be offered when the new console was first available, but has since been pushed back and rumors suggest that it will be launched before the end of February.

Why it matters: DriveClub is the kind of social experience that Sony has been promising for its new platform. The focus will be on the various ways in which gamers can associate in order to create their own events and organizations.

Once the game is finally launched, it will be interesting to see whether the club features are solid enough for those who own a PS4 in order to persuade them to spend time earning rewards not only for themselves but also for the group that they are part of.

Another very interesting aspect of DriveClub on the PlayStation 4 is that a stripped down version of the game, with less cars and tracks, but with full mechanics, will be offered for free to all those who are willing to pay for a PlayStation Plus subscription.
