Team Ninja, the developers of Ninja Gaiden and the Dead or Alive series of fighting games, have teamed up with Omega Force in order to work on the upcoming The Legend of Zelda-themed beat'em up, Hyrule Warriors.

Omega Force is the legendary dev behind the long-standing Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises, specializing in high intensity battles and over the top action that sees you blow a full screen's worth of enemies out of the way in a single move, in true traditional martial arts movie fashion.

The exciting news of Team Ninja's participation came from the latest issue of Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, informing that Yosuke Hayasahi and Hisashi Koinuma are the game's producers, while Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma serves as supervisor for the entire project, as Siliconera reports.

Further details on the extent of the collaboration between the two studios have not been shared, and neither have more details regarding the actual game itself; for now, all that is known about the story is that Link will embark on a quest to save Zelda from an evil witch, named Shea, who has kidnapped the princess.

The gameplay will be similar to that of Tecmo Koei's Dynasty Warriors series, only instead of using various Japanese historical figures, players will assume control of characters from The Legend of Zelda series and will take on a large number of enemies from Nintendo's franchise.

Hyrule Warriors is currently set for release in Japan on August 14, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U console.
